On January 10, the provincial and federal governments announced up to $2 million in funding under the
Canada-Ontario Apple and Tender Fruit Weather Risk Mitigation Strategy. The funding is designed to help Ontario apple and tender fruit producers develop risk management strategies to deal with the ongoing challenge of adverse weather.
To be eligible, producers must have reported gross income of $7,000 or more from apples or tender fruit in their 2011 tax year and continue to produce these commodities in 2013. Funding will also be provided to producers who began production in the 2012 or 2013 tax year.
Agricorp is working closely with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to finalize program details. More information and application instructions will be available on agricorp.com in late January.
