Producers who grow grains and oilseeds in Ontario can now begin to apply for the new
RMP: Grains and Oilseeds plan. As of today, applications are available on agricorp.com. They will also appear in participant packages being mailed to eligible producers this week. The deadline for all RMP: Grains and Oilseeds applications is
September 15, 2011.
To make enrollment easy, all producers can apply online at www.agricorp.com. The online availability of the application provides 24/7 access, letting producers complete and submit them when it’s most convenient. Producers who were in the 2010 RMP Grains and Oilseeds pilot extension along with producers who have grain and oilseed crops covered by Production Insurance will automatically receive a participant package by mail. Producers not previously enrolled with Agricorp can also request a package by mail by calling Agricorp at 1-888-247-4999.
RMP: Grains and Oilseeds, like all plans under RMP, works like insurance, where producers pay premiums, select their coverage level and receive a payment if their insured crop’s market price falls below the annual support level. Because 2011 is a transition year, past participation in an Agricorp program is not a requirement for enrollment. Also for 2011 only, premiums are waived and all participants are enrolled at the 100 per cent coverage level.
Ontario’s new Risk Management Program (RMP), announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on June 29 of this year, has now been launched. The program, administered by Agricorp on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), will begin rollout of the plans over the next few months, beginning today with RMP: Grains and Oilseeds.
Producers of these commodities are invited to visit the
ministry’s RMP website (Ontario.ca/rmp) or contact their commodity group representatives for a schedule of upcoming information sessions, where plan-specific information will be provided by RMP experts from OMAFRA and Agricorp. The new Risk Management Program helps producers manage risks beyond their control, like fluctuating costs and market prices. The program is available for the cattle, edible horticulture, grains and oilseeds, hog, sheep and veal sectors.
