As of March 18, 2019, 95 per cent of customers insured under the Production Insurance plan for corn have reported their yields. This year, corn yields across Ontario came in at an average of 183 bushels per acre. This is above the Production Insurance 10-year average of 170 bushels per acre.
A dry June and July in most areas, followed by rain in August, contributed to these record high yields. Total corn payments for the 2018 program year are nearly $45 million, with more payments on the way.
The yield map below shows average 2018 corn yields across Ontario for reported acres (as of March 18).
