The Ontario government has announced that farmers who normally need to pay their
Production Insurance premiums in May will have until June 30, 2020. Extending the premium deadline gives farmers the flexibility to pay later if they need to. This extension supports the agricultural industry as it deals with the challenges and uncertainties brought on by the COVID‑19 outbreak.
This premium extension is for the following plans:
- Asparagus
- Forage rainfall
- Fruit
- Strawberries
Other Production Insurance premium deadlines are staying the same at this time. Other Production Insurance program plan deadlines, such as enrolment and renewal, will also remain unchanged.
Coverage options for 2020 will not be affected, and program extensions will not cause gaps in coverage, ensuring farmers continue to have coverage in place.
Paying premiums through financial institutions
Farmers should pay premiums through their financial institutions, online or by telephone. Paying through a financial institution takes only a few minutes and is easier than paying by cheque, especially with the challenges of the current outbreak.
When paying a fee through a financial institution, it is important to direct the payment to the correct Agricorp payee. Agricorp has a payee for each program, and the invoice shows the correct payee. The account number is the eight numbers of the customer's Agricorp ID.
Before going to a financial institution in person, customers should call in advance to learn how they are currently operating.
Farmers can still mail a cheque, but they should allow extra time for processing.
